Teresa M. Cooney (Teri) has lived in Maryland her whole life. She grew up in Prince George’s County and moved to Howard County in her early teens. After graduating from Mt. Hebron High School she attended Mt. St. Mary’s College and later the University of Baltimore School and Law and Merrick School of Business. She graduated cum laude in 2000 with a joint JD/MBA. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Ronald A. Silkworth at the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County before joining the Law Office of James L. Mayer, P.A. in 2001. In 2021, when James Mayer decided to retire, she and Jennifer Borsoni formed Borsoni & Cooney, LLC to continue the legacy of James L. Mayer, P.A.
Working in a general practice has allowed Teri to accumulate a diverse knowledge in the practice of law including business formation, contracts, real estate, homeowners’ association, personal injury, and family law. For the last 15 years though, Teri has focused her practice on estate planning and estate administration and believes that helping people and families understand and navigate through the planning and probate process is what she was meant to do.
Teri lives in Bowie, MD with her husband and two children. When not assisting actual clients, Teri often finds herself explaining to people why it is important to get their papers in order. In her free time, however, she enjoys traveling with her family and being outside.
